Quite similar yet different, it becomes a confusing task sometimes to choose between the two.
For those slightly unfamiliar with technology, the task becomes even tougher because both, laptops and Netbooks, have quite striking similarities. Do not be fooled – the two are distinctive despite serving some common functions.
The foremost and easiest way to distinguish the two is the weight and size. Laptops weigh around a whooping four to ten pounds, while Netbooks are not more than two to three pounds.
A Netbook has a compact, small size with screen sizes ranging from seven to ten inches. Laptops, on the other hand size up to more than sixteen inches.
As stated, the physical characteristics are the most obvious way to tell them apart. Not the most important, however. Sure, size and aesthetics do influence hiring decisions, but they are not the most decisive factors.
Before we delve into whether you should hire laptops or notebooks, let us hash out the functional differences briefly.
Laptop, the predecessor, has all the functions of a desktop computer. HDMI, Ethernet port, optical DVD drives, USB ports, and other accessories like a built in keyboard and touch pad – all are available.
The Netbook on the other hand has some of these accessories missing; the price paid for a lower weight. A less spacious hard drive, no DVD drive, less powerful processor, and the rest downsized – you get a notebook.
The trump card for Netbooks is how economical, portable and low energy consuming they are. The less powerful processor means a longer battery life but no heavy duty functions such as gaming, multitasking, scientific computing; you can only perform basic internet functions, word processing, etc.
As someone looking for rentals for events, we doubt you will require any heavy duty functions off your machine. If this is truly the case, renting laptops may not be the best decision.
If you are looking to rent for other purposes such as a training session, however, multiple other factors come to play. Your work may not be restricted to simple functions such as internet browsing or just checking/sending emails. If that is so, a laptop rental will most probably be the better choice. The lack of CD/DVD drive and a smaller storage space might be problematic.
In the end, it circles back to what your need is.
